Recently I read an article about a home based business person's work day. The person slept in, made a leisure start to their day, and was generally acting like they were on vacation. They were also wondering why their income level wasn't where they thought it should be.
One of my favorite quotes from WhoSezHome.com is:
The recipe for personal success:
Find a need that beats your drum.
Create a plan, then make a dent.
Trust that your rewards will come.
And credit them as heaven sent.
Think about this quote. Does it sound like the person who eases into the day or the person who takes charge of the day.
Continuing on about the person in the article, who happened to be a journalist: In the late afternoon, this writer found time to write a few lines on the next article he was
going to try to get published and send out a few query letters.
But in the evening, when his roommates arrived home after their
jobs, the journalist was isolated, and disgusted
by the fact that he had to remain working in his room until late
into the night just to be able to make a paycheck.
How many of you work at home entrepenuers can relate to the story. Staying focused while
running your home-based business is difficult. You wanted to be at home for a reason and if that business gets in your way then you have defeated that purpose. Many bright, motivated people have great ideas for
their business and can take those ideas and turn them into great
quantities of cash with very little effort and others get distracted with daily living.
When you're a work
at home parent running a business out of your home without
getting distracted is even harder. In addition to the multitude
of daily distractions that can burn up business time and income pontential. The work at home parent has legitimate distractions people who rely on them. While you
can't put your kids on the "To Do" list for later, you can do a
few things to keep from getting distracted during the work day.
Treat your home business like a job, not a vacation. Treat
your business like a regular clock-punching job.
Have a starting time, ending time, and a schedule. Stick to it unless
an emergency arises.
If you have young children, get up early so that you can get
some work done when the house is quiet and there are fewer
demands on your time.
Older children can be more self entertaining and can better understand that you need some time to work.
Divide your day into blocks of time where you will be able to focus on specific tasks which are a part of both the work day and the home responsibilities. Set the
time of the block beforehand and don't dally over tasks.
If you really feel that you aren't getting the most from your day we suggest:

One of the biggest things we tell our web design customers is that they need to plan what they need for their business and their life. One of my favorite quotes from WhoSezHome.com is
Those who fail to plan plan to fail
Think about the quote for a minute. The bottom line is that being self-disciplined at running your own home-based business can mean the difference between success and failure. Distractions will come along, and you will be tempted to put off your business until later. You have got to stay focues and ontop of the business game. It will take discipline and persistence.
